Here are ARPAS-UK we are very fortunate to include in our membership people who volunteer their time for the benefit not just of our own membership, but the wider drone industry. We want to take a moment to acknowledge how much we appreciate them.

Who is involved?

What’s the Purpose of the Advisory Board?

The Purpose of ARPAS-UK Advisory Board is to:

• offer advice to ARPAS-UK to achieve its goals;
• support the organisation by providing subject-matter expertise and  specialised information, experience; supplement the knowledge and expertise of the operational team and the directors;
• in particular in terms of addressing future-facing challenges, such as enabling BVLOS in a shared airspace, that may require return of operational experience from the field, as well as in-depth knowledge in a range of current and future technologies;
• help disseminate and promote ARPAS-UK messages to as wide an audience as possible;
• help accelerate the UK drone roadmap delivery, with a focus on ensuring the wider drone industry expands in the UK and stays ahead of international competition.

Activities and Output

Provide subject-matter expertise on their areas of interest through ad hoc discussions, including in response to targeted consultations or workshops, from the CAA or DfT for example.

Meet as a group at least once and preferably  twice a year, virtually or in person, one of which is  in advance of the ARPAS-UK annual general meeting, to:

• reflect on previous year’s market developments;
• identify important issues/pain points/roadblocks;
• formulate responses to the issues identified, or action plans to formulate responses and drive change;
• identify new opportunities;
• discuss how to communicate effectively with the relevant stakeholders, the  authorities and the broader drone community, to influence the market.

Otherwise, the Advisory Board will remain a flexible and informal organisation.

No unnecessary meetings. Meetings will be driven by external requirements. ARPAS-UK is a membership organisation and members have a business to run.

The expected level of commitment is equivalent to 1 day a  year.

Membership

Advisory Board members are individuals, representing organisations or themselves, being recognised subject-matter experts. They demonstrate independent thinking, courage and a positive and collaborative attitude.

The Advisory Board aims to be balanced in terms of ARPAS-UK’s members’ profiles. Members may come from different parts of the industry, such as, but not restricted to:

• Drone operators
• Education and Training, aviation and industry
• UAS and Technologies
• Assurance, design verification and standards
• Airspace integration and infrastructure
• Testing centres
• Industry end-users
• Local Government

The Advisory Board is non-voting and does not engage in corporate decision-making. Members of the Advisory Board offer support and advice, but they are not bound by fiduciary duties and they do not have the responsibility of a director. However, they will be publicly identified as, and expected to be, Ambassadors for ARPAS-UK throughout their time. They will adhere to ARPAS-UK Conflict of Interest and Social Media policies.
