DroneSwarm – CAA Permission for Pyrotechnic Drone Light Shows

ARPAS-UK member DroneSwarm announces its latest achievement: securing official approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to deliver drone swarm light shows that incorporate pyrotechnics attached to unmanned aircraft (UA). This landmark accomplishment marks DroneSwarm as the first company in the UK to attain such recognition, reinforcing its status as a leader in innovative aerial entertainment.

This innovative capability is powered by DroneSwarm’s proprietary drone technology, which integrates their in-house-developed FireByWire digital firing system. Originally created in 2002, this advanced firework control system has been utilised by companies worldwide. By blending these technologies, DroneSwarm delivers synchronised displays of light, motion, and pyrotechnics.

DroneSwarm serves as the drone show division of MLE Pyrotechnics, a company with deep roots in the UK fireworks industry. Known for its award-winning traditional firework displays, the company integrates these with its cutting-edge drone light shows to create multi-faceted performances. From large-scale public celebrations and corporate events to private gatherings, DroneSwarm’s innovative techniques result in visually spectacular experiences.

“We’re thrilled to push the boundaries of what drone technology can achieve,” said Mat Lawrence, Director at DroneSwarm. “Combining pyrotechnics with our proprietary drone systems allows us to redefine UK aerial entertainment and provide our clients with truly unique and immersive shows.”
